UFC 142: URCC Fighters Predict The Outcome

By: Alfred Johannes T. Gealogo

We’re excited with everything that’s happening in the local MMA scene, but we’re very much fans of the UFC as well!

On the same weekend as Colt 45 URCC Cebu 7: Dominate, the Ultimate Fighting Championship will be holding UFC 142 at the HSBC Arena in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. Some URCC fighters took time out to share their predictions for the card’s top three events.

Angelito “The Saint” Manguray predicts …

Jose Aldo over Chad Mendes

I'll go for Jose Aldo. His vicious strikes especially his low kicks are relentless, and he’s got good takedown defense. It won't be an easy fight though. Ibang klase ang mga take down ni Mendes eh. Ginagawa niyang pang counter sa strikes ang take downs niya.
I’m calling it Jose Aldo by decision.

Vitor Belfort KO’s Anthony Johnson

Johnson loves to rumble. Belfort can handle this kind of fighter easily. Timing and accuracy in strikes are the best weapons to beat Belfort. I don't see that in Johnson. Belfort is a tough nut when it comes to the ground. Belfort for a KO.

Rousimar Palhares taps Mike Massenzio

They fight with the same [style] kaya lang mas mabilis si Palhares. They both love take downs but Palhares' take downs are quicker and stronger. Palhares’ strikes are also crisper. I'll go for Palhares. Ang galing maghanap ng ankle or leg submissions.

A candid Pete “The Professor” Brooks says …

Jose Aldo over Chad Mendes

Jose Aldo, one of the pound-for-pound best in the world, with an easy 2nd round TKO victory over Chad Mendes. Aldo just has way too much reach and his takedown defense is too good.

Anthony “Rumble” Johnson decisions Vitor Belfort

Here is one of my upsets for the night. Rumble Johnson over Belfort. I really like Rumble up here at 185lbs. If he gets out of the 1st round, Rumble Johnson wins by decision.

Terry Etim over Edson Barboza

In a fight I don't really care about, I got Palhares over Massenzio.

A fight you didn't ask me about but I'm most excited to watch on this card is Terry Etim v. Edson Barboza. I got Etim to outlast Barboza with the decision win in what I predict will be the fight of the night, baby!!!

URCC Middleweight Champ Froilan Sarenas calls it …

I’m going with Jose Aldo, Vitor Belfort, and RousimarPalhares. Home court advantage!!!

Impressive newcomer Will “The Kill” Chope gives his thoughts …

Chad Mendes TKO’s Jose Aldo

I have to go with Chad Mendes all the way! Jose Aldo got exposed in his last fight against Kenny Florian, showed everyone he is not invincible. Chad Mendes’s wrestling and athleticism is going to be too much for Aldo. I am thinking a 3rd round TKO by Mendes. Going to be great to watch!

Vitor Belfort KO’s Anthony Johnson

I am one of the old school fans. I remember when he debuted, I was a little kid watching the UFC with my dad. I really want to see Vitor KO Johnson. I just hope Rumble's size and strength is not too much for “The Phenom”.

Rousimar Palhares submits Mike Massenzio

The only way I see Mike Massenzio winning this fight is if Rousimar stops fighting and tries to tell the ref Mike is greasing and gets TKO'd! Hahaha! I doubt that will happen, so I see Palhares getting a crazy submission win.

TJ Tiu, URCC’s first ever Hall of Famer has it …

Jose Aldo submits Chad Mendes

It's very close as both fighters are well rounded and both have lots of experience in MMA competition. But I will go with Jose Aldo via submission.

Vitor Belfort TKO’s Anthony Johnson

Another close match since both fighters have superior ground and striking skills. I'll go with Vitor via strikes.

RousimarPalhares TKO’s Mike Massenzio

I'll go with Mike Massenzio via TKO or ground and pound.

There you have it, folks. The pros have called it. What do you guys think about the matches? Sign up now and join the community by sharing your picks.

Before UFC 142, Colt 45 URCC Cebu 7: Dominate hits January 13, 2012 at the Cebu International Convention Center, Cebu City. Eduard “Landslide” Folayang faces Wadson “Knockout” Teixeira in the main event! Bakbakan na!
