Get to know more the Pinweight champ, Roy "Punisher" Docyogen
The Pinweight champion, Roy "The Punisher" Docyogen, has a very impressive record, 7 wins no loss. He got his belt in URCC VIII "Undisputed" on May 20, 2006 via TKO from the then-champion Jeanyce Baga of Negros Top Team. For the record, he is the longest reigning champion in the URCC, or Philippines' short MMA history.
Most of Docyogen's fights have ended via TKO or submission, and only one has gone the distance - the back-and-forth match with Yawyan Buhawi's protege Alvin Ramirez - but, not every fight has been easy. There was one fight where he was almost submitted by the wrestler Jesus Rabadon via armbar, but he showed true champion's heart, fought back and won.
This coming Colt 45 URCC XVII "Havoc", his belt is on the line and his heart will be tested again as he is matched against a Saipan fighter, Jordan "Jungle Boy" Ogo from Team Haga T.
We got intimate with the champ. Read on as he gives his thoughts on the fight, his team, and his "other" career.
URCC: Hi Roy! How is training going?
Roy Docyogen: Fine we're doing great!
URCC: Do you have any special regimen or diet for this fight?
RD: None, it's all the same every time i fight.
URCC: As of speaking, your team has the most champion in the Philippines, how does being part of this team help you?
RD: Well, it gives me confidence and good luck for me.
URCC: Being part of a big, successful team, means most of you are competitive? Don't you get personal some times in training?
RD: None, as part of this team we don't bring our personal problems to our training camp. Maybe we talk a little bit, but not too much.
URCC: Do you know that you are the longest reigning champ in the Philippines? That is such a very prestigious feat! Do you feel any pressure knowing you are the longest reigning champ and you belong to the winningest team?
RD: Now, as being longest reigning champ and my first fight to a foreigner I really feel pressured so the only thing right now is to do my best and to retain my belt.
URCC: Did your life change since you got the belt? Do girls woo you for being the champ?
RD: A lot of course, but I don't care about popularity; the most important for me is who you are.
URCC: What do you do during your downtime? Let's say when you're not training, what keeps you busy? If you're not fighting what will your career be?
RD: I really want to be a professional architect. I've already graduated in architecture, and doing 2 years of apprentice before taking my board exam.
URCC: Let's go back talking about fighting; in all your URCC fights who can you say was your hardest opponent? Why?
RD: My last fight (with Alvin Ramirez, URCC XV, November last year) because I really did give my best but he was still standing until the last round. I don't know what he did to himself, but it's okay, I can figure that someday.
URCC: This coming July 24, it is your first time to defend against a foreigner and virtually an unknown fighter; what can you say about your opponent, Jordan Ogo?
RD: I really don't know him and I don't have copy of his fights to review so maybe I'll just have to do the best I can this coming 24.
URCC: What will be your thoughts going in to this fight? What can we expect from our champ?
RD: I just want to say thank you for giving me this opportunity to prove again myself, and don't expect too much, maybe I'll just keep a little bit longer my cardio and defense.
URCC: Any last words to your fans?
RD: To my fans, I just want to say thank you for being their every time I have a fight and I hope that we'll see each other again.
URCC: Thank you very much for your time and best of luck!
